Fun fact alert: so-called 'Frost Fairs' were held on the iced-up River Thames from the 7th century all the way up until the early 19th century. The last 'Frost Fair' took place in February 1814, when the ice was so thick that an elephant was paraded across it. (An incident that was given a nod-to in a 2017 episode of Doctor Who).
