5 Top Tips for Christmas Promotional Marketing

'Tis the season to be selling, Christmas is one of the busiest periods of the year for retailers and many other industries but it's important you have your promotional marketing strategy in place, well in advance.

1. Social Media

First and foremost you need to utilise the power of social media. Lots of businesses have social media accounts, but not all use them.  If you have an account with followers then you should be utilising this, particularly when you are hoping for a busy period. Social media can be used to promote your products, offer sales promotions and generally interact with potential and existing customers.

2. Plan Ahead

You need to move ahead of your competitors in terms of promotion. Whilst your competitors may be thinking about Halloween at the moment, you need to be thinking two months ahead into Christmas and the New Year. By doing so, you are putting your competitors on the 'back foot', so plan your online and offline marketing campaigns well in advance.

3. Customer Retention

It costs eight times as much to attract a new customer than it does to retain an existing one. With this in mind, surely it makes more sense to reward your existing customers and sell them more services rather than attracting new customers. This could be through offering an existing customer discount or by providing them with promotional gifts. The promotional gift doesn't need to be big, it just needs to be handed out to loyal customers to show your appreciation for their custom.

4. Giveaways

You could also consider giving away a promotional item with every purchase. At Christmas time, people are more likely to purchase from you if they know they are 'getting' something. This could be any item or even free delivery. If you were to give away a promotional item with every purchase then you could even start to promote your brand ready for the New Year.

5. Know Your Market

Of course, with all the Christmas hype, don't forget the basics of marketing. You need to know your target market inside out before making any marketing decisions. By targeting people who are likely to, or already shopping with you, you have a better chance of gaining a good ROI. It's easy to get caught up in the Christmas hype but remains grounded and follow your marketing plan to ensure maximum results.
