The Best April Fools Day Jokes 2017: Part 1

The business world has shown that April Fool’s Day is not just for children! Every year, the creative juices get flowing as 1st April comes around, and videos are set to go viral. We’ve rounded up some of our favourite April Fool’s Day jokes of the year in this two-part series, hopefully inspiring you to have a bit of fun with your customers!

How Can April Fool's Day Campaigns Boost Your Marketing Activities?

Having some fun with your customers adds a light-hearted feel to your marketing campaigns and can create a lasting impression. Your brand can be remembered for spreading joy and leaving a smile on their faces. As well as showing your audience that you are present and current with what's happening outside of the office.

Although some of the pranks in the list below probably took up a fair amount of their marketing budget, this doesn't always have to be the case. Involve your employees in the joke by having some fun in the office. For instance, you can provide them with an amusing giveaway such as a bespoke stress toy.

Now, let's dive into some of our favourite April Fool's pranks of 2017. You’d be forgiven for thinking that some of these adverts were real as the companies add a professional flair to each campaign.

1. Marmite’s Meh-Mite

You either love it or you hate it. Right? Wrong. Marmite used their branding to ‘release’ Meh-Mite, a ‘bland yeast extract’ that is ‘impossible to love or hate’.

2. Amazon’s Petlexa

Have you heard of the new Amazon product, Alexa, used as a personal assistant to control your TV and computer? Amazon introduced an updated version of this system… for pets! The Petlexa was ‘designed’ to let household animals to communicate with the Alexa system just like humans can, allowing dogs and cats the freedom to place orders from Amazon and activate smart home enabled toys. Sounds quite useful really…

3. Domino’s Door-minos

Isn’t it so frustrating when you get home from work and your pizza is cold? Don’t worry, Domino’s has your back by creating a letterbox warmer for anyone who wants pizza waiting for them when they get back from a big night out or for those who are just too antisocial to not answer the door.

4. Flight-Sized Beer

You know sometimes there are those April Fool’s jokes that you kind of wish was real? This was one of them. 100ml Tennent’s cans of lager were released at “all good Scottish airports”, designed for your hand luggage to take straight onto the plane.

5. Iceland’s Frozen Flowers

Iceland – the supermarket where everything is frozen. Even the flowers? Iceland nicely executed their April Fool’s Day campaign by introducing flowers frozen in a block of ice that are “fresh as they day they were picked #PowerofFrozen”. Clever.

6. BBC Three, David Attenborough, and… Grime?

It doesn’t sound like the last part should join that title, does it? BBC Three decided to introduce the frontman of a new series titled “David Attenborough: Life of Grime”. Even Stormzy fell for it!

Which of these made you laugh the most? Would you have fallen for any of them? It’s difficult not to fall for some of them when they are executed so well!
