Personalised Advent Calendars for the Christmas countdown

It's the most wonderful time of the year, and what better way to countdown than with personalised advent calendars? Advent calendars are traditional to Christmas - remember the excitement as a child waking up and being allowed a piece of chocolate every morning, not to mention the added excitement of counting down to Christmas?

Where Did Advent Calendars Originate From?

Advent calendars first originated from German Lutherans who would physically countdown the days until Christmas. Most would do this by making chalk lines on the door each day beginning on the first of December, whilst others would mark lines on a candle and burn it down each day.

There is much debate over who created the first 'modern' advent calendar, whilst some believe it was created in 1851, others state it was much later in 1902. However, since then advent calendars have been a prominent part of Christmas tradition, with the exception of during World War Two where paper needed to be saved.

In the past and in religious calendars, they are made from two sheets of cardboard and simply countdown to Christmas. However, more recent calendars have included chocolates or 'treats' for each day leading up to the big event. The first chocolate-filled calendars were created in 1958, and since then they have become more and more popular. For many people, it marks the beginning of Christmas, which provides excitement to all children and adults alike.
