Clocks and Watches are branded giveaways that we all use and look at regularly every day and would, therefore, present good value for brand awareness. A custom clock is also a great gift or useful item at a place of work, as can you imagine how many times your message or logo would be viewed on any personalised wall clocks at busy offices or retail premisses.
Our lives are usually run by time, there is a certain time we have to get up, be at work, be in a meeting, even a certain time dinner is expected on the table. It's hard to imagine a world without a clock or a watch. The clock has been around for many years and it is said to be one of the oldest human inventions. Clocks measure intervals of time, and in some cases, they enable us to determine what day, month and year it is.
Watches weren't invented until many years later and evolved from portable spring-driven clocks, which were first around in the 15th century.
However, when the first watches were invented they weren't traditionally worn on the wrist (like many are today). Watches or 'clock watches' as they were more commonly known as were some of the first-ever watches to be invented. Worn around the neck or fastened to clothing. Theses watches were not quite as big as clocks but weren't as small as the watches we use today (which is probably why they weren't worn on the wrist).
These watches only had an hour hand, so there was no precision of the second hand. Saying that, precision was not what these watches were made for, they were mainly used as jewellery to complement an outfit rather than tell the time. Then in the 17th century, pocket watches came into fashion. As men preferred to have their watch in their pocket rather than have them as a pendant.
To fit into pockets, the watch shape and size had to be changed. These watches were flattered and rounded to remove any sharp edges, to avoid the user cutting themselves when pulling the watch out of their pocket.
Over the years the watch evolved even more, becoming more and more accurate.
However, people didn't start wearing watches on their wrists until the late '60s. The popularity of the wristwatch took the nation by storm. Watches and clocks are now even becoming the main choice for companies to print their logo onto and hand out as branded giveaways.
