What the Colour of Your Merchandise Says About Your Brand

Sight, Sound, Taste, Touch and Smell. The 5 senses are how we perceive and engage with the world, and although you can't always engage all of them at the same time, we've got some ideas to work towards captivating your customer by playing on their senses.

The brain responds to visual stimuli as an initial reaction, meaning sight is one of the first senses engaged, so the colour you choose for your merchandise needs to relate to the colour of your branding in order to build the right visual identity. This is important because different colours provoke different emotions, and the promotional merchandise you're offering to the customer needs to be easily relatable to your company.

The colour emotion guide below shows you examples of colours and their associated meanings. If you think about brands that you already know, it's helpful to apply them to the image because you'll find that being aware of what the colour means helps you to understand what the company stands for a lot better.

Positive associations are key to getting the most out of your gift. A large number of our products come in a variety of colours and using our colour picker tool on our website will show you everything in that colour you choose. But this article isn't only about colour, it's about tapping into your customer's other senses too.

Depending on your type of business, the colour theme you've chosen will reflect the types of products and services you offer, and it will generate an image of your brand to your target customer. An item like our Stress Oval, for example, will engage with your customer's sight and touch senses, but you need to be mindful of picking the right colour. Red could be considered too aggressive for an item that's supposed to help soothe, so choosing a blue or even a white would be more appropriate. These colours are more calm and balanced.

If your branding is red, then a different item would serve you better such as one of our Flexi Man Clocks. It's bendable which engages with touch and sight, and also sound if your customer makes use of the alarm clock feature. It also provides entertainment value which would sit well with your fun and bold red branding.

There are so many different options to consider when choosing your promotional gift but hopefully reading this article will help you to consider things from your customer's perspective and ensure they are feeling the right way about your brand.
