One huge step in marketing for your business is to define your audience. Now, this is all well and good, but how can you actually reach them? The big reason for wanting to define our target audience is so that we can see who are the people who will become our potential customers – you want to get your message across to the right person at the right time. We’ve put together a few of our top tips on how to reach your target audience to see your sales rise and your reach grow.
Do your market research
This is probably the biggest step of all. You need to take a think about who would be interested in buying your products or services by undertaking some market research. You could take a look at the type of people who are buying from your competitor, or take a think about who your products are aimed at – men, women, businesses or consumers? Your target audience could be broad or it could be a little more precise – neither is preferable over the other as long as your can figure out which yours is.
Figure out where your customers spend their time
If you are targeting the younger generation then we have two words for you: social media. Studies have shown that active internet users spend between 16-25% of their time online and this figure is rapidly growing with advances in technology. Further, it has been shown that consumers are spending 1/6 minutes on social media. This shows how imperative it is that your brand is on social media to access your target audience because the likelihood is that that is where they are handing out.
Make sure your content connects your audience
You want to be creating content that is not only interesting but content that will truly resonate with your target audience. That is the only way you can make sure they will care about your brand – if you can engage in conversations about hot topics to them. At the end of the day, people want to be engaged – in fact, a study by Nielsen has shown that when people are watching a TV programme, 44% of them are also visiting a social media site. So if you are creating content that they care about, chances are they will find a time to see it and connect further with your brand.
Later this week we will be continuing this theme of how to reach your target audience.
