Custom merchandise is great for any traditional holiday as it really gives your promotional campaign a personal touch. The tradition that is April fools catches many of us out every year... But this year is going to be different!
Although April Fool's Day is not a public holiday, it is still recognised and celebrated across the globe. There isn't a distinct point in time where April Fool's Day was introduced to the world, and there are many different theories as to how the tradition came about. One of which is that the tradition began in 1582, in France. Prior to that year, the new year was celebrated for eight days, beginning on March the 25th... the celebration climaxed on April 1st. Then a reform to the calendar took place, and the Gregorian Calendar was introduced whereby New Year's Day was moved to January 1st.
Obviously many would have thought this was a hoax... and so the tradition began. Another theory is that the traditional sort of evolved simultaneously in several cultures at the same time, forming from the celebrations of the first day of spring. There are also other theories involving Chaucer's Canterbury Tales and the Roman festival of Hilaria. In many countries, April fools is celebrated differently (as with many holiday traditions).
For instance, in Canada, New Zealand, the UK, Australia, Cyprus, and South Africa you can only pull an April Fool's trick on someone until noon. Whereas in France, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Russia, The Netherlands, Germany, Brazil, Ireland, and the U.S the jokes can last all day. April Fool's Day is also known as 'All Fool's Day' in some parts of the world.
You may be asking yourself why is a custom merchandise company blabbering on about the traditions of April Fool's Day... the reason is because there are many promotional items that can be used within your April Fool's jokes, for example: Our promotional stress bricks look very similar to a real bricks... if you want to play a trick and grab the public’s attention in your promotional campaign... just tell someone to catch it (they will instantly panic, driving their adrenaline levels to a max, then when they realise it was just a trick their attention will be drawn to your brand instantly).
Another popular trick is to offer someone a promotional bag of empty sweets (you can then, of course, offer them a full bag of promotional sweets after... depending on how mean you want to be).
