The first person to cross the finish line wins a Double Gloucester cheese. This custom is said to have started around Roman times, and back in those days, it was a way of guaranteeing the rights of the villagers to graze their livestock on the surrounding land. In other parts of the world, Morris dancers put on displays and festivals are held.
