Due to this continued success, we are looking to recruit a back-end software engineer to join our existing software development team.

This role will see the successful candidate joining a a team of strong senior and mid-level developers working on the bleeding edge of software innovation. You will be responsible for developing the core systems that are empowering Total Merchandise to innovate and retain its position at the top of its industry.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about solving business problems and comfortable with working alongside others to develop industry-leading, powerful, and maintainable solutions. The successful candidate will be working closely with directors, marketing teams, and sales staff to improve the efficiency of day-to-day operations and processes.

In this role, candidates will also have the ability to work in all areas of the software development cycle, this includes working with React apps, AWS infrastructure, networking, UX design, and taking leadership of internal projects.

The successful candidate will be well-versed in back-end web development fundamentals and would be familiar in developing bespoke back-end software applications in PHP or Node.js.  This position is not suitable for those that only have experience in developing brochure or themes/plugins for CMS powered sites.

The most successful candidates will have experience with a major back-end web development framework such as Symfony, Laravel, CodeIgniter, NestJS, Meteor.js, or Express. In addition, the ideal candidate will always be looking for new ways to develop and refine their skills

Essential for this role:

  • Strong experience with PHP or Node.js
  • Experience with MySQL (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Ability to learn quickly, possessing a strong enthusiasm for technology

Desirable for this role:

  • Experience with Symfony or Laravel
  • Strong experience with front-end tooling (SASS, gulp.js, npm, Yarn)
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
  • Experience with Docker, containerisation, or virtualisation
  • A history of leadership
