The material of the cup is 50% wheat straw - the stalk left over after wheat grains are harvested. It has usually been treated as a waste and typically discarded. In some countries, farmers traditionally burn it, contributing to air pollution. However, this material still has value. It can be used to produce several products, meaning it causes less pollution and contributes to using as many 'leftover' materials as possible to reduce waste and increase recycling.
