Summer Marketing Campaign Advice

We could keep this really brief and just tell you that the sooner you start planning your campaign the better, but that isn’t very useful for most of us who work on tight schedules with a lot to do. There is, however, such thing as starting too early, and there is definitely such thing as starting too late! We wanted to put together a quick guide to help you determine when the best time to start your email and social campaigns for Summer is.

Social Media

The thing with social media is that it is 24/7. While you don’t need to be (and probably shouldn’t be) posting 24/7, you want to be posting at least once a day for several days of the week. With regards to your Summer campaign, there is no set date as it depends on the weather. When the sun comes out, that’s when people start to get in the mood and become more hyped for Summer. This year, after having an incredibly snowy and bitter Winter, we’ve been struck with some beautiful sunshine that’s set to stay pretty early on. Start your Summer social campaigns around now to reap the rewards of people’s attitude towards the beautiful weather.

According to Jenn Deering-Davis, who us the editor in chief of Union Metrics, timing is essential and you shouldn’t start too early. She says: “If you go out too early, the audience isn’t ready for it, and it’s just a waste of money”.

Whilst a lot of businesses are quieter over Summer, the marketing team should be hard at work with social campaigns. Keep consistent with your social media campaigns throughout Summer. We recommend putting together a timeline of how long you want to run your campaign with a specific start and end date and notes on how frequently you want to be posting before you start the campaign so that you’re well prepared.

Email Campaigns

Our top tip for email campaigns is to gather the information and plan what you want to send well in advance of the campaign so that you can observe current trends of your target market. Give yourself this time! However, also be prepared to abort a few emails to stay on trend with current news – leave yourself space for this in your planning. We recommend starting to plan and kick off your campaign, again, around May/June.

If you want to start early, make sure you’re not too eager so much so that it will put off your audience. You want to build a buzz, not go out in full-force. Amp up the heat of your campaign as Summer goes on to keep your sales rolling in.
